My Runner 5 cosplay from Zombies, Run!

Basically, it’s me in my running gear with a headset and a big name tag, because, well, that’s who Runner 5 is.

I did a bunch of thinking about the name tag. First of all, it would be useful for the operators or strangers the runners meet in the field to identify them by. Secondly, Runner 4 made them. Thirdly, they wouldn’t want to waste electricity on a project like this, so I embroidered and sewed it by hand and intentionally badly. (It says Runner 5, Abel Township if it’s too hard to see.)

I jogged around the con whenever I remembered and I was actually recognized! That was freaking awesome. Many high fives were had.

Rarity was, ah, supposed to be Korean. It, uhm, sort of really failed. That is something I really need to practice. Her belt was inspired by my sewing teacher who would wear a measuring tape as a necklace.

Rarity My Little Pony My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Human version I swear she's not white You can sort of see it when you compare her to the white ones And maybe if you're more used to not needing specific clues for it? But no I will admit my defeat on this point I just didn't have time to fix her drawing

I made all of these in… two days, I think. I had to get them ready in time for my sudden artist alley. As such, I did not have time to make them very detailed, but I did have time to think about ethnicities so I’m gonna talk a bunch about that.

When I first started thinking about human ponies, it was in a setting where it would make more sense to have them come from all around the world than make them all white. I decided to have the different types of ponies equate different continents to keep that connection between the ponies.

  • Rainbow Dash: I had to make her Greek. Pegasus culture in MLP has too much Greek influence for me to do anything else. I made her hella muscular to make her stand out.
  • Fluttershy: After Rainbow Dash had decided that pegasi were European, I decided to make Fluttershy middle eastern because they’re a visible minority here and I made her wear a hijab because I didn’t trust my ability to draw that recognizably otherwise.
  • Twilight Sparkle: I’ve always imagined Twilight as Indian, even before I sat down to really think about it. Probably because I saw other people make her a POC most often.
  • Rarity: Rarity is, uhm, a very failed Korean. I’m gonna draw that better next time.
  • Applejack: I really only had one option with this one, right? So of course she’s a cowgirl from America. There were no choices.
  • Pinkie Pie: Human!Pinkie’s hair clicked for me as a pink afro a while back and there are luckily enough black people in North America to fit with my continent plan.

Genki was awesome and I sold enough to cover my costs! :D I’m definitely gonna keep the price of prints down to 10 kr, because that really made a difference. I also need to do more magnets. I didn’t have time to find my magnet paper before the con, but art with a practical use are double the awesome of art that just looks pretty. I didn’t sell any of my knitted things, but it was crazy hot, so I really didn’t expect to either.
I’m gonna upload the new pictures soon and very soon.
